Manchester Light Cigarettes Compared: Light, Sapphire Blue or Blue Special Edition?

Manchester Light Cigarettes Compared Light, Sapphire Blue or Blue Special Edition

When I look at the lighter side of the Manchester range, three products naturally sit together: Manchester Light Cigarettes, Manchester Sapphire Blue and Manchester Blue Special Edition.

They are all classic, non-capsule cigarettes, so the difference is mainly in tobacco body and overall strength. After comparing how they sit within the range, I find the easiest way to remember them is:

Manchester Light Cigarettes → light and straightforward
Manchester Sapphire Blue → smooth and balanced
Manchester Blue Special Edition → fuller, but still medium

Manchester Light Cigarettes: The Lightest Starting Point

Manchester Light Cigarettes are the easiest of the three to position.

The current product information lists 0.6 mg nicotine, and the tobacco profile is lighter and less full-bodied than the other two. The main characteristic is simply a lighter classic tobacco profile.

I’d place Manchester Light Cigarettes at the beginning of this comparison before moving into the two Blue variants.

The word “Light”, of course, describes the product’s position within the Manchester range. It does not mean the cigarette is safer or carries less health risk.

Manchester Sapphire Blue: Smooth and Balanced

Manchester Sapphire Blue is where I start to notice more tobacco body without moving into a particularly heavy profile.

Compared with Manchester Light Cigarettes, Manchester Sapphire Blue feels like a natural step up. The tobacco character is more present, but smoothness is still the main feature.

“Balanced” is probably the word I would use most often here. Manchester Sapphire Blue sits comfortably between the lighter character of Manchester Light Cigarettes and the fuller profile of Manchester Blue Special Edition.

It is also worth noting that Manchester Sapphire Blue has no connection to the capsule system used in Manchester Blue Crush. Despite the similar colour naming, Manchester Sapphire Blue is a classic tobacco cigarette.

Manchester Blue Special Edition: A Fuller Medium Profile

Manchester Blue Special Edition stays within the smoother side of the Manchester range, but this is where I find the tobacco character becomes more pronounced.

Compared with Manchester Sapphire Blue, the difference isn’t dramatic. Both belong in the same general medium area. Manchester Blue Special Edition simply has a little more body and a fuller overall profile.

That distinction is important because I wouldn’t describe Manchester Blue Special Edition as a full-strength cigarette in the same sense as Manchester Red or Manchester Royal Red.

I see it more as the final step in Manchester’s smoother classic range before moving into those fuller Red variants.

Manchester Light Cigarettes vs Manchester Sapphire Blue

Between these two, the difference is fairly clear.

Manchester Light Cigarettes have the lighter tobacco profile. Manchester Sapphire Blue adds more body while retaining a smooth character.

If I were putting them on a simple progression:

Manchester Light Cigarettes → lighter and softer

Manchester Sapphire Blue → smoother but more substantial

There is no major flavour change between them. It is mainly a change in tobacco presence.

Manchester Sapphire Blue vs Manchester Blue Special Edition

This is the closer comparison.

Both are classic, non-capsule cigarettes and both sit around the medium part of the Manchester range.

After looking at the two together, I would describe the difference like this:

Manchester Sapphire Blue → smoother and more restrained

Manchester Blue Special Edition → fuller and more tobacco-forward

I wouldn’t make the difference sound bigger than it is. Manchester Blue Special Edition doesn’t suddenly jump into Manchester Red territory. It simply carries a little more body than Manchester Sapphire Blue.

How the Three Fit into the Manchester Range

The easiest way I’ve found to visualise them is as a gradual progression:

Lighter
Manchester Light Cigarettes

↓

Smooth & Balanced
Manchester Sapphire Blue

↓

Fuller Medium
Manchester Blue Special Edition

↓

Full Strength
Manchester Red / Manchester Royal Red

This progression also explains why I prefer comparing these three together rather than mixing Manchester Blue Crush into the same strength scale.

Manchester Blue Crush uses a mint capsule, so cooling becomes part of the experience. Manchester Light Cigarettes, Manchester Sapphire Blue and Manchester Blue Special Edition are much cleaner comparisons because all three rely on classic tobacco profiles.

Quick FAQs

Which is lighter: Manchester Light Cigarettes or Manchester Sapphire Blue?

Manchester Light Cigarettes sit at the lighter end. Manchester Sapphire Blue has more tobacco body while remaining smooth and balanced.

What is the difference between Manchester Sapphire Blue and Manchester Blue Special Edition?

Manchester Sapphire Blue has the smoother, more restrained profile. Manchester Blue Special Edition is slightly fuller and more tobacco-forward.

Is Manchester Blue Special Edition full strength?

I would place Manchester Blue Special Edition in the medium range rather than alongside the full-strength Manchester Red and Manchester Royal Red variants.

Do any of these Manchester cigarettes contain capsules?

No. Manchester Light Cigarettes, Manchester Sapphire Blue and Manchester Blue Special Edition are all classic non-capsule cigarettes.

Is Manchester Sapphire Blue the same as Manchester Blue Crush?

No. Manchester Sapphire Blue is a classic tobacco cigarette. Manchester Blue Crush contains a mint capsule and belongs to Manchester’s menthol range.

Three Steps Through the Smoother Manchester Range

For me, the distinction between these three doesn’t need to be complicated.

Manchester Light Cigarettes start light and straightforward. Manchester Sapphire Blue adds more body while keeping things smooth and balanced. Manchester Blue Special Edition takes one more step toward a fuller tobacco profile without moving into the full-strength Red range.

Light → balanced → fuller is the simplest way I would remember the difference.

Smoking causes serious harm to health. Tobacco products are for adults aged 18 and over only.
