Manchester Menthol Cigarettes Guide: Blue Crush, Green Crush & Double Drive

Manchester’s menthol range comes down to three products: Manchester Blue Crush, Manchester Green Crush and Manchester Double Drive. They all use capsules in the filter, but they are not simply three levels of the same menthol cigarette.
The easiest way I’ve found to understand the range is to start with the capsule itself.
How Do Crush Capsules Change the Flavour?
A crush capsule is a small flavour capsule built into the cigarette filter. When it is pressed, the capsule breaks and releases flavour into the filter.
Before pressing it, the tobacco base remains the main flavour. After pressing it, the character changes.
With Manchester Blue Crush and Manchester Green Crush, that change comes from a single mint or menthol capsule. Manchester Double Drive uses two separate capsules instead.
One point is worth clearing up early: pressing a capsule changes the flavour, not the nicotine strength. A colder menthol sensation can feel more intense, but that does not automatically mean the tobacco itself is stronger. This distinction is particularly important when comparing Manchester Blue Crush with Manchester Green Crush.
Single Capsule vs Dual Capsule
This is the basic structure of the Manchester menthol range:
| Product | Capsule Setup | Flavour Change |
| Manchester Blue Crush | Single capsule | Lighter smooth mint cooling |
| Manchester Green Crush | Single capsule | Stronger menthol cooling |
| Manchester Double Drive | Dual capsule | Berry, mint or both |
A single capsule keeps things simple: smoke it without activating the capsule, or press it to add the cooling flavour.
The dual-capsule design in Manchester Double Drive gives you more combinations. You can leave both capsules untouched, activate mint, activate berry, or activate both.
Once you understand that difference, the three products are much easier to compare.
Manchester Blue Crush: Light, Straightforward Cooling
Manchester Blue Crush is the mildest menthol option in the current Manchester Crush range.
It uses one mint capsule. Without activating it, the tobacco remains more noticeable; pressing the capsule brings in a cooler mint finish.
Its profile can be summed up simply:
Tobacco → crush the capsule → lighter mint cooling.
That also makes Manchester Blue Crush quite different from Manchester Sapphire Blue. The similar “Blue” naming can be confusing, but Manchester Sapphire Blue is part of the classic tobacco range rather than the Crush range.
Manchester Green Crush: When Menthol Takes the Lead
Manchester Green Crush uses the same basic single-capsule idea but increases the cooling intensity.
This is where people sometimes mistake menthol strength for cigarette strength.
Manchester Green Crush is not simply Manchester Blue Crush with stronger tobacco. The underlying tobacco and nicotine level as essentially the same; what changes noticeably is the menthol capsule and the resulting cooling sensation.
In practical flavour terms:
Manchester Blue Crush = tobacco with a gentler cool finish.
Manchester Green Crush = menthol becomes much more prominent after the capsule is pressed.
I think that is a more useful distinction than calling one “mild” and the other “strong” without explaining what is actually stronger.
Manchester Green Crush has a sharper, colder finish, and the cooling stays more noticeable through the draw and exhale. If Manchester Blue Crush is balanced between tobacco and mint, Manchester Green Crush clearly puts the menthol first.
Manchester Double Drive: Berry and Mint in One Filter
Manchester Double Drive is the product that changes the structure of the range.
Instead of one capsule, there are two:
Mint capsule — adds cooling.
Berry capsule — adds a sweeter fruit note.
Because the capsules are separate, activating one does not automatically release the other flavour.
That creates four possible flavour states:
| Capsule Choice | Result |
| Neither | Tobacco base |
| Mint only | Tobacco + cooling |
| Berry only | Tobacco + berry |
| Both | Tobacco + berry + mint |
This is the part of Manchester Double Drive that I think is more interesting than simply calling it a “double pop”. It changes how much control you have over the flavour.
Berry on its own adds sweetness without the same cooling effect. Mint takes it in the menthol direction. Activating both combines the sweeter berry note with the colder finish.
So Manchester Double Drive really sits in its own position within the range. It isn’t Manchester Green Crush turned up another level.
Blue Crush vs Green Crush vs Double Drive
Once the capsule mechanics are clear, the comparison becomes fairly straightforward.
| Feature | Manchester Blue Crush | Manchester Green Crush | Manchester Double Drive |
| Capsules | 1 | 1 | 2 |
| Main flavour | Mint | Menthol | Berry + mint |
| Cooling | Lighter | Stronger | Depends on capsule choice |
| Fruit flavour | No | No | Yes |
| Flavour combinations | Simple | Simple | Multiple |
| Main difference | Balanced cooling | Sharper cooling | Greater flavour control |
Manchester Blue Crush vs Manchester Green Crush
These are the closest pair.
Both are single-capsule cigarettes, so the deciding difference is mainly cooling intensity. Manchester Blue Crush keeps the menthol lighter; Manchester Green Crush makes it much more prominent.
If I were comparing only these two, I wouldn’t spend much time on the filter design because it works on the same principle. The real question is simply whether you want a gentler mint profile or a colder menthol profile.
Manchester Green Crush vs Manchester Double Drive
These two are different for another reason.
Manchester Green Crush is focused on one thing: a pronounced menthol effect. Manchester Double Drive trades that simplicity for flavour choice.
In other words, Manchester Green Crush is more about cooling intensity; Manchester Double Drive is more about flavour variation.
Manchester Blue Crush vs Manchester Double Drive
Manchester Blue Crush is the simpler format of the two. One capsule creates one main flavour change.
Manchester Double Drive offers more possibilities because of the extra berry capsule. That fruit element also makes its flavour profile noticeably different from the more conventional mint direction of Manchester Blue Crush.
Tobacco Strength, Menthol Strength and Flavour Intensity
I think these three terms are worth separating because they are often mixed together in menthol cigarette descriptions.
Tobacco strength refers to the underlying tobacco profile.
Menthol strength describes how pronounced the cooling sensation becomes.
Flavour intensity describes how noticeable the added flavour is.
This is why Manchester Green Crush can feel more intense than Manchester Blue Crush without necessarily being a stronger tobacco cigarette. It is also why Manchester Double Drive can taste more complex without automatically being the strongest of the three.
The same principle appears when menthol cigarettes are discussed alongside other flavours: cooling changes how surrounding flavours are perceived, creating contrast rather than simply adding “strength”.
For this range, I find light cooling / strong cooling / dual flavour much more useful than trying to force all three onto one mild-to-strong scale.
Manchester Menthol Cigarettes FAQs
What is the difference between Manchester Blue Crush and Manchester Green Crush?
Both use a single capsule, but Manchester Blue Crush has a lighter mint profile while Manchester Green Crush produces a stronger cooling sensation. The main difference is menthol intensity rather than simply tobacco strength.
How many capsules does Manchester Double Drive have?
Manchester Double Drive contains two separate capsules: berry and mint. They can be activated independently or together.
Can Manchester Double Drive be used without crushing either capsule?
Yes. Leaving both capsules untouched keeps the cigarette at its underlying tobacco profile without releasing the berry or mint flavour.
Can I activate only the berry capsule in Manchester Double Drive?
Yes. Because the two capsules are separate, the berry capsule can be activated without releasing the mint capsule.
Does crushing a capsule increase nicotine strength?
No. The capsule changes the flavour and cooling sensation; it does not increase the nicotine content of the cigarette.
Is Manchester Blue Crush the same as Manchester Sapphire Blue?
No. Manchester Blue Crush is a capsule cigarette with a mint cooling component. Manchester Sapphire Blue belongs to Manchester’s classic tobacco range.
Understanding the Manchester Menthol Range
For me, that is the clearest way to understand the range: Manchester Blue Crush for lighter cooling, Manchester Green Crush for a more pronounced menthol profile, and Manchester Double Drive for berry-and-mint flavour variation.
Smoking causes serious harm to health. Tobacco products are for adults aged 18 and over only.
