Manchester Cigarettes Full Range Guide: Flavours, Strengths & All Variants

Manchester has a broader range than many people first realise. The names and colours can make some variants look more similar than they actually are. I find it easier to separate Manchester cigarettes into two groups first: classic tobacco and capsule cigarettes. From there, the differences become much clearer.

Classic Manchester Cigarettes

The classic range is where I would start if the main question is tobacco strength rather than menthol or added flavour.

Manchester Light Cigarettes

Manchester Light Cigarettes sits toward the lighter end of the classic range.

It has a softer tobacco profile than Manchester Red and Manchester Royal Red while still keeping the familiar Manchester tobacco character. 

Despite the name, “Light” describes its position within the range. It should not be taken to mean that the product is safer or carries less health risk.

Manchester Sapphire Blue

Manchester Sapphire Blue is a smooth classic variant with no flavour capsule.

I often think this is one of the easiest products to confuse with the other Manchester Blues. Manchester Sapphire Blue is not a menthol cigarette. It sits between the lighter and fuller classic variants, with a balanced tobacco profile.

Manchester Blue Special Edition

Manchester Blue Special Edition is another classic tobacco option in the middle of the range.

Compared with Manchester Light Cigarettes, its profile is fuller, but it does not move into the same full-bodied territory as Manchester Red. This makes Manchester Light Cigarettes, Manchester Sapphire Blue and Manchester Blue Special the three variants that make the most sense to compare together.

Manchester Red

Manchester Red is the straightforward full-strength option in the classic Manchester range.

Its profile is richer and more tobacco-forward than the Blue and Light variants. If you are trying to understand Manchester strength by colour, Manchester Red is a useful reference point for the fuller end of the range.

Manchester Royal Red

Manchester Royal Red also belongs at the full-strength end.

I would avoid treating Manchester Royal Red as simply “Red but stronger”. Published specifications for the two can place them in the same strength band, so the distinction is better understood through their overall profile rather than an unsupported strength ranking.

For that reason, Manchester Red and Manchester Royal Red deserve a separate side-by-side comparison rather than being reduced to one number.

Manchester Menthol & Capsule Cigarettes

Manchester’s Crush range works differently from the classic variants. Here, the main distinction is not simply tobacco strength, but what happens when the capsule is activated.

Manchester Blue Crush

Manchester Blue Crush combines the tobacco base with a crushable mint capsule.

Once activated, the capsule adds a lighter cooling character. Within the current Crush range, Manchester Blue Crush is the more moderate menthol option.

Despite the similar name, it is quite different from Manchester Sapphire Blue and Manchester Blue Special Edition, which are both non-capsule cigarettes.

Manchester Green Crush

Manchester Green Crush follows the same capsule concept but with a stronger cooling profile.

The key difference between Manchester Blue Crush and Manchester Green Crush is therefore the menthol sensation rather than simply nicotine strength. Manchester Blue Crush is lighter on the cooling side; Manchester Green Crush is sharper and more pronounced.

Manchester Double Drive

Manchester Double Drive stands apart because it uses two flavour capsules.

The combination is berry and mint, allowing the flavour profile to change depending on which capsule is activated. That makes Manchester Double Drive more flavour-focused than either Manchester Blue Crush or Manchester Green Crush.

Manchester Cigarettes Strength Comparison

For the classic range, I would broadly group the current variants like this:

The capsule range is better compared by cooling and flavour:

This distinction matters because menthol intensity and tobacco strength are not the same thing. A colder cigarette does not automatically mean a stronger cigarette.

Manchester Blue Crush, Manchester Sapphire Blue and Manchester Blue Special Edition are probably the easiest Manchester cigarettes to mix up.

The easiest clue is “Crush”. If Crush appears in the name, you are looking at a capsule product. Manchester Sapphire Blue and Manchester Blue Special Edition stay within the classic tobacco range.

Red vs Royal Red

Both Manchester Red and Manchester Royal Red belong to the full-strength side of the range.

Rather than assuming Manchester Royal Red must automatically be stronger because of its name, I prefer to treat them as two separate full-strength variants. Published specifications do not consistently support a simple stronger/weaker distinction.

Blue Crush vs Green Crush vs Double Drive

The three capsule products are easier to separate by flavour:

Double Drive is therefore not simply another level above Manchester Green Crush. It offers a different capsule format and flavour combination.

What About Other Manchester Variants?

You may also come across Manchester Classic Gold, Manchester London Fog, Manchester Reserve and Manchester Queen Limited Edition.
